Flight simmer since the '90s. Taking you along for the ride in Microsoft Flight Simulator since 2020. Keeping things clean and as realistic as possible.
MSFS | TUTORIAL: PMDG Boeing 777 with a Real World 777 Pilot | Full Flight Lesson | Heathrow to SFO
Learn how to fly the PMDG 777-300ER for MSFS along with me in this full flight lesson with a real world 777 pilot! We take you through everything you need to know to fly almost any flight realistically, from setting the aircraft up from cold and dark to shutting it down at the other end. This tutorial has something for everyone - it's simple enough for beginner flight simmers and detailed enough that even the most seasoned flight simmer will learn something new. Unlike previous tutorials in the series, we also cover certain non-normal procedures and flows, making this the most detailed tutorial I've produced to date!

MSFS 2020 | REVIEW: Pyreegue Edinburgh (EGPH) scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
I have a question, do you use GSX with this aircraft at all? I have faced several issues such as the cargos just clipping through the plane. Also there are various sound effect problems on the aircraft atm, whenever there is a door(s) open the whole outside noise comes in to the cockpit as if you were on the external view, is it also the same with you? Thanks
I absolutely love this format. It gets all the information we need while still being fun and lighthearted. In addition, Thanks so much for putting together the checklist. I use the one for the 737 and will be using this one for the 777 as well. I really appreciate your contributions to the flight sim community. Cheers!
Good, that's exactly what my aim is with this format. 🙂
thank you so much!
Great video with lots of valuable info. Congratulations! When following the flow I am having problems with my throttles and reverses. I have a TCA. Is it possible for you to say which is your setup regarding the throttle axis and reverses?
I have a Honeycomb Bravo. To engage reverse, I have Reverse Hold bound to a button, which I press and hold, and then move the throttle leavers forward.
@@FilbertFlies Thank you! I will try that.
I'm not sure what "follow the yellow brick road" means here, but I'll remember it XD
Hey Filbert, if I remember correctly, you mentioned a possible issue with the thrust levers for the 777? Could you tell me what it was if I do remember correctly. I'm having some issues with my thrust and rudder control.
Hmm, I don't remember what I said to be honest. I did have a bit of an issue with reversers, which I solved by binding a button to reverse hold, but I can't think of anything else.
Before doing the after start checklist, when performing the EICAS recall/cancel action, there shouldn’t be any EICAS messages existent during normal operations. The TCAS OFF shouldn’t be there. The 2 normal operation modes of the transponder are OFF and TA/RA. On the ground, all TA/RA’s are inhibited by the Boeing 777 system logic, exactly for that reason, and will resume at 500 feet.
If that's true, it can't be true for all airlines. It behaved as Eli expected, as you saw.
@FilbertFlies it wasn't even tried. How do you know it's not true? 😂
@FilbertFlies you might be right, or you might be wrong. In any case, check the B777 FCOM > Warning Systems > Alert Inhibits > Alerts Inhibited During Takeoff
Sorry, I may have misunderstood what you were saying. You said the TCAS OFF shouldn't be there when we pressed recall right? But Eli said that, for his airline, that SHOULD be there didn't he? And you say the the 2 normal operation modes of the transponder are OFF and TA/RA but Eli's airline also uses XPDR. So that's what I meant when I said it can't be true for all airlines. What do you mean we didn't try it? What didn't we try?
@@FilbertFlies I’m explaining you as per Boeing 777 operating philosophy (quiet and dark) there shouldn’t be any TCAS OFF alert message on the EICAS after engine start. The correct way should be to set the transponder to TA/RA because on ground all TA/RA’s are inhibited exactly for that reason. It’s possible the procedure varies from airline to airline. In my airline the transponder is set to TA/RA during the before start procedure.
Thanks for the tutorial! I was hoping to see how to program the fix page with ETOPS for this flight. Could we have a video on that?
Sorry, not from me I'm afraid, I'm on an extended break from video production after this one! I wouldn't be surprised if someone else does one though. :-)
Thanks for this video, I plan to start streaming soon and this really helps me with my confidence for this plane. If you have anymore vids like this then I’ll be a fan for a while :)
I do! I have them for the 737 (ruclips.net/video/mX5QRithc0E/видео.htmlsi=-3xnXN56-lMTvALt), CRJ (ruclips.net/video/VMvw1_C3yVg/видео.htmlsi=a9pSTWIXQN4_vhxg) and CJ4 (ruclips.net/video/N5Hs04u1JA4/видео.htmlsi=vBNAvd3gYdAg4oWa). Good luck with the streaming. :-)
damn where is the toga button
I've got mine bound to a joystick button. There is a click spot for it, which is the screw underneath the left flight director switch.
Did my first test flight and everything was going well except for final. I’ve done many ILS landings with the 737 and 747-8 and they have the same logic for when you get close to the magenta diamonds you hit the APP button and the plane will capture the glideslope but when I did the same thing in the 777 the plane just stayed at 3000 which was the altitude I needed to capture the G/S and plane wasn’t descending. Any idea as to why this would happen?
Hmm, that's strange. No, I can't explain it. My one ILS approach went fine and captured the G/S as expected. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Appreciate the response! More than likely it was an error on my part and being a little too high when I armed the approach button.
So using your flight plan, when I import into aircraft I'm, getting over 6000nm versus 4733 you show. In Simbrief it shows 4803 so very lost as to what happened. Any idea are appreciated.
That's odd. I have no idea why that's happening. Sorry.
This guy must have a personal vendetta against the 737 😂
Im sorry but Eli sounds so much like Howie Mandel and now thats who I think is teaching me to fly this plane lol
Filbert: Do you live in Europe or in the States? I ask because there was an ambulance that went by your house and the siren sounded American.
Europe
It took me 2 days to watch this but it was worth it! Thank you for creating this incredible learning resource. And beautiful job with that landing!
This is the best tutorial I’ve watched yet! This is the kind of tutorials that I prefer to watch because of the real world pilots experience and instruction that he has learned and implemented in the real aircraft! So it was very interesting to see watch and learn about his techniques, tips and tricks that he has learned from flying this airplane!🤓

Good idea this!
Could someone please tell me why my PFD has the cross shaped attitude indicator, instead of the double chevron types, seen on this video?
I'm not totally certain, but this video is pretty old and was made with the CJ4 mod before it was integrated into the sim, and before Working Title were employed by Microsoft. Some things have changed and I guess this is one of them. I imagine it's an option in the real aircraft.
Can you also just enter the steps in the page. Like xxxxx (waypoint) FL360S?
This was awesome, the fact a real pilot was able to do all the checks, preps, flows, and normal ops. Makes me supper excited to get my virtual hands on this beauty!
This is a fantastic video, Eli is absolutely great. Very enthusiastic and fascinating to listen to as he talks about complex topics in an understandable fashion. You both really made a 4 hour video not seem long!
I remember trying to teach my buddy how to fly PMDG's 738 just over a discord screen share... I can agree with Eli it's a mental exercise - considering I can't point or anything and it's just a whole bunch of "no up, no too far up... no that's not autopilot panel, no that's the wrong screen." The best moment of that session was after getting them somehow all the way to the arrival airport their TCAS yells "traffic traffic", so I told him "there's no way I'm teaching you how to do a go around right now just continue the landing." Then 2 seconds later there was an A320 taking off on the perpendicular runway (it wasn't even active XD gotta love MSFS online) Anyway, just from my basic understanding of the 737 this tutorial was beautiful. I cannot wait for the airplane to release as now I understand (nearly) everything about this aircraft. Great video ty to you and Eli!
I like this a lot! This is reliable information. So thorough!
That Pilot is hilarious, what a lovely guest
Okay apparently I watched this whole video while Ivwas asleep. Which is weird because autoplay was off 🫠 how?!
No idea, but I appreciate the view and I hope you'll rewatch it while you're awake!
This is SO good. Huge thanks to Eli and yourself for arranging this. Honestly this is so comprehensive and I feel MUCH more confident flying this thing in the sim now thanks to this video :)
perfect content
The only instruction you'll ever need
Very helpful, thank you!
tell eli thank you from us all will be using his lessons and tips for my flights
you're an absolute legend mate thanks so much for this if I was the king id give you a massive castle
Haha, pleasure! And if you were the king I would graciously accept a massive castle!
to bad your tutorial is infested with BS adds
A necessary evil I'm afraid.
I'm switching over with p3d skills
how can you re load a flight? is this done with an external programm?
No, it's part of MSFS. You load from the MSFS world map screen, via MORE down at the bottom. You can access the save option via the escape menu in flight.
this is beautiful work! many thanks for organizing this and thanks to Eli who is a wonderful instructor!
Awesome video thank you! Please also pass the thanks on to Eli who is a fantastic teacher. Like you I will be rewatching a couple of bits - mainly the FBW section because the last part on pitch and speed threw me a bit. Have saved the URL to my 777 repo 🙂
This is what I’ve been waiting for. Someone who knows the systems inside out to run us through the complexity and intricacies PMDG have been able to recreate. I have to say I’m mighty impressed!
The textures look like a cartoon. They dont feel like PBR
You've been watching very different cartoons to me then!
Hello watching your video and i saw some stutters i would like to ask you what gpu and cpu are you using?
So we had one significant freeze and a few stutters at Heathrow but, other than that, I found it really smooth. The video is not as smooth as I'd have liked and I'm not sure why. System specs are (now) in the video description - forgot to put them on on Saturday, sorry.
Thanks Eli for showing us the ropes! Brilliant instructor, entertaining and educational about the 777. I'll be going over this video for some time to come, until I'm confident. Don't need to hunt yt this is the ultimate tutorial for the pmdg 777
I have never watched a video or stream over about an hour and a half. This video was so educational that I could not stop watching. I have saved it and will be using the chapters after buying the 777. Thank you both for helping me learn.
magnificent!
thank you and Eli for the GREAT demonstration of the 777 and aviation in general, I've never thought that i could ever watch a 4 hours video about one topic in my life!
Our pleasure!
Brilliant Tutorial Boss 👍
Just found your channel and thanks for flying out of Melbourne my home city 🇦🇺 I’m going to use this flight and try and learn as much as I can about the 737-800
You certainly can, but if you want accuracy and expertise in flying the 737, you might be better off with the 737 tutorial I made with a real 737 pilot. 🙂
Do you think they will improve the sounds? A lot of people are complaining about them it seems!
I don't think so, but you never know.
Thanks to you both. As a retired Boeing guy, I found this very useful. The biggest I flew irl was the 767, but I too find taxiing the bigger aeroplanes in the sim, particularly the Jumbo, to be a more sedate, majestic sort of ritual. 😇
Yes, I find it's very sedate and majestic until it suddenly isn't! 😂
I absolutely love this! Can't help cracking up at Eli's commentary. Awesome!
